"If my particular passion ever kills me, it won't be because I was on my horse's back... It will be because I was gaping out of my car window at some horse standing innocently in a field when I was supposed to be paying attention to the road."

Why?

At work lately, we have been riding in the afternoon a set of Sale Horses, to get ready for the upcoming sale this Saturday. My project pony over the last month has been Sassy - the aforementioned walking fun pony.

She has been a fabulous partner, and is coming along famously. She is not what I am here to comment on though.

What I would like to place comment on is riding in general. I was under the impression that people ride because they enjoy it, or have a passion for it.  Being able to ride with basically every staff member at one given time or another so we can get all of these sale horses ridden, I have noticed something nigh universal with them all.... none of them smile or laugh or look like they are enjoying themselves at all! Everyone is so serious and concentrated... I dont know why they do it! They look like they are taking the hardest most boring test ever!!

I feel a little out of place laughing and smiling and enoying myself in general with Sass, I always love our time together!

This isnt something I have just noticed at work though, riders in general rarely seem to look like they are enjoying themselves! Seems so silly and trivial, but I think it means a lot.  If I want my horse to be happy and look like she is enjoying herself, I should to!
